PREGNANCY EMOTIONS -
DEPRESSION DURING FIRST TRIMESTER

Question: "I have recently discovered that I am pregnant, this will be my first pregnancy. I have not been able to stop crying since receiving the news and there have been times that my heart feels heavy. I know hormones are to do with some of this, but I also feel like it could be more. Could you explain to me what happens spiritually or energetically when a woman becomes pregnant? Could this be contributing to my feeling of intense emotions?"

"Psychic Advice":
Pregnancy and anxiety or depression are very common, and are probably more prevalent than most women are willing to admit. Women have ideas about how they are supposed to feel when they are pregnant, but no matter how much you want a child, pregnancy triggers many emotions, including depression during first trimester - for some women, this can continue throughout the pregnancy and even after birth.

Hormones play a big role in pregnancy and anxiety or depression, however, there are other spiritual and energetic reasons for these pregnancy emotions. Becoming pregnant not only changes a woman physically, but also spiritually and energetically as well.

Women can become very sensitive and emotional during pregnancy. Pregnancy drives a woman's consciousness deeper into herself, forcing her to embody more of her feminine energy. For women who are more comfortable in their masculine energy, this can be very uncomfortable and foreign - these women can feel that their body is not their own, and it isn't because it now belongs to the child within.

During pregnancy, a woman becomes more aware of her body in every way, whether she likes it or not. However, nature takes over her body to nurture the child, and a woman has little control over any aspect of her body and the changes it undergoes. Resisting or judging these changes causes pain and depression, because there are aspects of pregnancy that lead a woman to feel somewhat helpless and powerless over what is happening to her, which can trigger fear and anxiety.

At the same time, pregnancy allows a woman to embody a greater sense of power by being profoundly connected to her own inner wisdom and divine guidance. Emotional sensitivity is an aspect of intuition. One of the reason's that a woman's sensitivity becomes heightened during pregnancy is so she can better protect herself and her unborn child. This is connected to a mother's natural instinct to always keep her children safe, and it is also true for many animals. Emotional sensitivity acts as a sort of radar or antenna to alert a woman that there is something she must do or adjust in order to take care of herself and her child.

Women tend to become radiant and glow when they are pregnant - this is because they are filled with life force and with the Light of Love. The light that radiates around a pregnant woman is not just the light of joy, it is also the light of protection. When a woman is pregnant, she is connected with the Divine, and she becomes a vessel of Creation. That divine energy creates the spark of life that grows within her, and the light that shines around her. That Divine Light is designed to protect her and keep the light of the soul within her intact.

When you are pregnant, your intuition is guiding you to exactly what you need at all times, whether it is to certain nutrients, or to certain things that will give you joy and raise your energy. Food cravings are not just a biological response, they are also an intuitive response. Pregnant women often become highly psychic, and can have profound and prophetic dreams. Also, the tendency to go deeper within yourself allows you to connect to the baby telepathically and empathically - connecting with the baby mind-to-mind, and heart-to-heart. The baby knows your thoughts and your feelings, and vice versa.

Pregnancy is a profound transformation on all levels - not only is your body changing, but your identity is also changing from being a woman to being a mother. You may not even feel like the same person anymore - pregnancy forever changes a woman's life because her life is no longer her own. This awareness can trigger anxiety and depression as the responsibility sets in. From the moment of conception, every choice you make is not just for yourself, but impacts the life and consciousness of another soul.

The soul of the baby growing inside you also has its own consciousness, its own path, its own mission, and its own karma. These issues can impact you emotionally because you are deeply connected with the child growing within you. In order to incarnate on Earth, a great and vast soul must come into a tiny body, and be confined in a tight space for several months. That soul faces the trauma of birth, and the prospect of helplessness and dependence for many months thereafter. Some souls find the womb to be a warm, loving and comfortable space, while others are restless and frustrated. These feelings can affect the mother, just as the mother's feelings can affect the baby.

We all incarnate in soul groups and have sacred contracts, karmic bonds and karmic debts with one another. Some women can feel anxiety and depression that is triggered on a spiritual level by the karma or sacred contract they have with their unborn child. We all play different roles for one another over many lifetimes so we can help each other to grow and evolve. Some of these roles are loving and supportive, while other roles can be painful and challenging.

Your child in this life could have been your parent in another lifetime - loving or abusive. Your child could have been your slave or your master, with debts to be repaid in either case. Your child could have saved you or killed you, or you could have killed or betrayed that soul who is now coming in as your child. Your child could have been your greatest friend, teacher, persecutor or enemy. In all instances, we are called to each other to find love, healing, balance and forgiveness in this lifetime, but these unconscious memories can trigger fear, sadness, anxiety and depression in both the mother and the child.

The best thing to do is to find peace within yourself, even if you are crying. Make time to be quiet with yourself, and just breathe and relax. Meditation and yoga can help calm your mind and body. Talk to your baby out loud, and tell it that you welcome it into your life with love, and that you will both do your best to work together so you can both fulfill your sacred contracts with each other. Tell your baby that you support its soul's purpose, and that you welcome all that it has to teach you and share with you for the growth and evolution of your soul. Tell your baby that you will keep it safe and protect it, even from your own fear.

Stay focused on the present as much as possible and take one moment at a time. Don't let the idea of childbirth trigger anxiety, and try not to waste precious energy focusing on worry. Make peace with yourself, with your body, with your baby, and with the process of being pregnant and being a mother. Make peace with the present and with the future, and align yourself with the energy and the vision of what you choose to experience.

During your pregnancy, remember to do things for yourself, not just for the baby. Surround yourself with the things you love and the things that give you joy. Have lots of color and pretty things around you, like flowers and things that smell good. Let yourself feel feminine and nurture yourself. Ask for what you need, and don't skimp on what makes you happy. Sing, laugh and play a lot. All these things will raise your vibration and will help you through pregnancy emotions of depression during first trimester, and throughout your pregnancy.
